Summary:
Beginning with faiths in the ancient worlds of Mesoptoamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, Ross examines in sixteen chapters the major religions from countries and continents all over the globe. After tracing the history and development of a religion, she provides a general overview of the principal beliefs and key practices. The focus of each chapter is on the temples, churches, and religious buildings, statues, paintings, and other works of art and architecture created by believers. Each is examined in terms of its history, materials, symbols, colors, and patterns, explaining its significance. The set contains approximately 200 illustrations.
