"The [publication's] first interpretation is historical and transforms the hoard into an assemblage of objects buried in haste during periods of crisis. Certain hoards contain pieces that were voluntarily broken or folded... Was the idea to subsequently reuse these pieces? It has been shown that to brake up the pieces would have necessitated to heat them first and was probably not part of an improvised metallurgical procedure...The second hypothesis is economic and considers the deposit a metal stock collected by a craftsman and destined to be melted down. Assemblages of new objects have been interpreted as stock put together by crafts men or by a pedlar...The Lorraine, the Saar and Luxembourg: The three areas,Lorraine (Meuse, Meurthe-et-Moselle, the Moselle andthe Vosges), the Saar (and a small part of Palatinat) andLuxembourg, make up the geographical framework ofthis study."-- From the publication.
