- Summary:
- "Since 1984, approximately 31,000 acres of serpentine soils high in asbestos fibers within the Clear Creek Management Area (CCMA) have been designated as the Clear Creek Serpentine Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) to protect public health and safety. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the CCMA Asbestos Exposure and Human Health Risk Assessment on May 1, 2008. The results showed that visiting CCMA more than one day per year can put adults and children above EPA's acceptable risk range for exposure to carcinogens and increased excess lifetime cancer risk from many typical CCMA recreational activities. This Record of Decision (ROD) for the CCMA Resource Management Plan (RMP) identifies sustainable multiple use management goals, intermediate objectives, and actions and options for meeting those objectives on lands administered by the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Hollister Field Office in San Benito County, California"--Page 1-1.
