- Summary:
- Since aircraft design is trending toward all-metal constructuion, the strong heat-treatable light aluminum alloy, duralumin, is finding increasing application. In airplanes it is used in sheet form, for wing and fuselage coverings, for floats; in tubes, plates and special sections for wing and fuselage structures, as well as in very much thicker sections, for propellers. In lighter-than-air aircraft, practically the entire framework is constructed out of sheet duralumin.
