- The National Wild and Scenic Rivers System was created by Congress in 1968 to preserve certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations. This website contains river management plans, GIS files and maps of the designated rivers, publications and bibliographies related to the designated rivers and river conservation, and information about the Interagency Wild & Scenic Rivers Coordinating Council. Videos, photo galleries, media toolkits, and event toolkits are also provided.
