Other Title:
Natural resource condition assessment
Place of Publication:
Fort Collins, Colorado : U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Natural Resource Stewardship and Science, 2016.
Summary:
The objectives of this assessment are to evaluate and report on current conditions of key park resources, to evaluate critical data and knowledge gaps, and to highlight selected existing stressors and emerging threats to resources or processes. For those components with sufficient available data, the overall condition varied. For featured components with available data and fewer data gaps, assigned conditions varied. Five components are considered of low concern: upland shrublands/woodlands, reptiles, breeding and resident birds, and hydrology. Two components (fish and water quality) were of moderate concern. Three components were of high concern: air quality, soundscape, and viewscape. Soundscape and viewscape also appeared to shows a deteriorating trend due to continued urban development. Several park-wide threats and stressors influence the condition of priority resources in San Antonio Missions Natural Historical Park. Those of primary concern include the presence of non-native invasive species and effects of urban development (e.g., habitat loss and fragmentation, pollution, hydrological alterations). Climate change could also threaten many resources, as the San Antonio region is likely to become warmer and drier for at least parts of the year within the next century.
