Summary:
Microbial forensics is the emerging interdisciplinary field of microbiology devoted to the development, evaluation, validation, and application of methods to detect and fully characterize microbial samples containing a biological agent or its components for the purpose of statistically meaningful comparative analyses. These methods will provide data for attribution investigations involving pathogens, toxins or other biological materials that are collected as part of an investigation of a planned or actual biocrime or bioterrorism attack on people, animals or plants.
