- Summary:
- A Triaxys directional wave buoy was acquired by CO-OPS with funds from the NOS Partnership, "Tools and Technical Guidance to Improve Restoration of Coastal Habitat". It is to be deployed at Barren Island and other sites in the Chesapeake Bay in support of marsh restoration. In the future, it may be used to support other CO-OPS programs, such as PORTS® and other coastal programs. The buoy contains three solid state accelerometers, three angular rate sensors, and a fluxgate compass, and derives directional wave information from dynamic motion measurements and six degrees of freedom buoy motion equations. The technique is relatively new and requires validation by NOS for operational use by NOS. This document outlines a test and evaluation plan which provides a framework for developing detailed test procedures that can be carried out in- house or via contractual arrangement
