- Charles "Sonny" Liston was born on May 8, 1932, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Liston was a heavyweight boxing champion. He lost a major boxing match in Miami Beach, Florida on February 24, 1964, to Cassius Clay, Aka, Mohammad Ali. Sonny Liston learned how to box in 1950 while in the Missouri penitentiary.
