- Summary:
- On Thursday, 20 June 1996, this workshop was convened at BRL Hall (Bldg. 330), located at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL), Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. The purposes of this workshop were: (1) to define the critical problems that cut across forensic agencies; (2) to provide an open, multidisciplinary forum in which these problems could be addressed and better defined; and (3) to lay the foundation for practical, timely, and cost-effective solutions. The technical focus of the workshop pivoted on two questions: (1) What is required for a sample to be traceable to a unique compound (or unique class of compounds)? (2) How can the present databases be made into user-friendly, complete, and current databases, accessible by all forensic laboratories? This report documents the background leading up to the calling for a workshop, the manuscripts of the talks given, and the discussion held.
