- Summary:
- Alaska is the most seismically active state in the United States, and in 1964 the site of one of the largest earthquakes since the beginning of instrumental recording. Probabilistic seismic hazard maps intended to extend those prepared by Frankel et al. (1996) for the 48 contiguous states, have been prepared for Alaska. Preparation of these maps followed the same general strategy as that followed for the U.S.G.S. seismic hazard maps of the contiguous United States, combining hazard derived from spatially-smoothed historic seismicity with hazard from fault-specific sources.
