CIREN, founded in 1996, the Crash Injury Research & Engineering Network, is a group of trauma centers and their associated universities in different parts of the U.S. that are linked by computers and that share information concerning injuries due to automobile accidents. The goal of CIREN, funded by NHTSA and General Motors, is to design safer cars to help prevent severe injuries from accidents.
