- Summary:
- A Flood Insurance Study (FIS) is a narrative report of flood hazards in state and local jurisdictions. The following data is contained in each FIS: a description of the areas studied and the engineering methods used; past flooding information, graphic profiles of the flood sources; and in some studies, floodway maps. Geographic coverage includes all 50 states and the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Pacific Territories, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The studies that are available online are full text, with some containing a selected number of maps. If all maps for a desired jurisdiction are needed, they can be ordered directly from FEMA.
