- Caption title.
- The books withdrawn from the sale comprise the portion of the library which had belonged to Huet, bishop of Avranches, according to whose will it was to revert to his heirs in case the library should be dispersed. The bishop's heir and nephew, M. de Charsigné, in whose favor the Council of state issued the decree of withdrawal, deposited the library of over 8,000 volumes in the Royal library in 1765, and was granted, it is said, an annuity of 1,750 livres. cf. Franklin, Les anciennes bibliothèques de Paris, v. 2, p. 275-277; Le Prince, Essai historique sur la Bibliothèque du roi, 1856, p. 91-92, 394; and Murray, Bibliography, p. [1]
