Summary:
Released in 2006, filmmaker Stephen Frears' 19th feature film The Queen is not a biopic depicting the reign of Elizabeth II, the longest in the history of the British monarchy, but a portrait of the conflict between young Prime Minister Tony Blair and the queen following Princess Diana's accidental death in the late summer of 1997.The Queen is an unvarnished but deeply human portrait of Queen Elizabeth; actress Helen Mirren explains how she worked very hard for this role for which she will receive an Oscar. David Thompson's documentary also shows how Stephen Frears and his screenwriter Peter Morgan allowed themselves considerable freedom while relying on rigorous documentation and authentic archival footage. The Queen is a film lesson on how fiction can serve historical truth
