Summary:
"The eponymous monograph of Japanese artist Yu Nishimura, is the first English-language publication to survey the artist's works from 2016 to 2024, which features works of both lucid figuration to his scenic landscapes. Working with traditional techniques in oil and tempera, Yu Nishimura has formed a painterly style that echoes Japanese anime and street photography. The artist employs brushwork that has a fluid and dreamlike effect through a process of superimposing layers, overlapping, and misaligning forms to manifest blurred or fleeting memories. The book features Nishimura's own photographs which inspired his paintings; two texts by writers Alexis Vaillant and Fabrice Hergott, and a conversation between Nishimura and the artist Jonas Wood" -- Sadie Coles website
