Summary:
Between May 1916 and October 1917, Chaplin produced a series of twelve films for the Mutual Film corporation which are considered his finest short comedies. This volume presents four films in which Chaplin plays a variety of dramatic and comedic characters. The count (5th Mutual film): Charlie, a comically inept tailor's assistant, and Eric, his mountainous boss, offer rival impersonations of Count Broko in order to meet Miss Moneybags. At the Moneybags party, Charlie is sensational on the dance floor until he's put to the chase when the actual count appears. The vagabond (3rd Mutual film): Charlie, a street violinist who rescues Edna from gypsies to fall in love with, lose and ultimately regain her after she is discovered to be wealthy. The fireman (2nd Mutual film): Charlie is a clumsy but eager apprentice fireman under the crooked precinct chief. Behind the screen (7th Mutual film): A satire of life at a silent movie studio.
