The Mühendishane Printing House, which was established in the late 18th century, moved to Üsküdar with a new identity at the beginning of the 19th century after operating for a while, and an institution known as the Üsküdar Printing House was born in our publishing history. This institution is one of the first printing houses in Turkey established after İbrahim Müteferrika’s Dârü’t-Tıbaası. Many works that we can evaluate as both the sources and fruits of Ottoman Turkish modernization were printed here. These books are seen as publications that enrich the historical-cultural identity of Üsküdar today. Of course, more importantly, they have a special place for Turkey’s press and publication history and our national culture. As the Üsküdar Municipality, we developed a project to bring these books, this printing house, back to our cultural life in Üsküdar, where they were born. Under the supervision of experts, we collected all the books we could access that originated from the Üsküdar Printing House and prepared an exhibition. This book in your hands shares the content and scientific value of this exhibition with the public.
