Authorship from Sabin, Ford, Butterfield, Adams and ESTC.
First edition in English, based on a ms. that was written earlier, but issued in print slightly later than the first edition of the text in French under the title: La cassette verte de Monsieur de Sartine, trouvée chez Mademoiselle du Thé. (Cinquième edition revue & corrigée sur celles de Leipsic & d'Amsterdam.) The Hague, 1779.
A political satire and bibliographical hoax, purporting to be secret papers found; they expose France's motives for aiding the United States and satirize Benjamin Franklin's activities in Paris as well those of English sympathizers with the American cause, etc.
