A history of the Virgin of Guadalupe written to counteract the irreligious implications of the account written by José Ignacio Bartolache (Mexico City, 1790). Contains a prologue, historical introduction, and nine chapters dealing with Cortés' devotion to Our Lady, the miraculous appearances of the Virgin of Guadalupe, characteristics of the painting, written and oral sources of the legend, and the recognition accorded to it in various countries.
