This trial, one of the most important episodes in the modern history of Putnam County, was the result of John Jacob Astor's claim to the ownership of the revisionary rights to the lands included in lots 3, 5 and 9, which were the share of Mary Philipse Morris as one of the three owners of the Philipse patent.
