- "This interesting little geography was written in Ireland. It is intended to give a concise view of the foreign operations of the Church Missionary Society. As might be naturally expected, it contained several phrases and allusions peculiar to Ireland or the Church of England. To prepare the book for this country, the publishing committee have deemed it expedient to change the phraseology in many instances, and in some few cases to omit a page or add a note. ... It was designed particularly for the young, but will be found equally interesting to all ages."--Publishing committee's preface, p. [3].
- "The writer of this little work referred to this system of teaching children geography in a speech made at a missionary meeting in Dublin"--Advertisement to the London edition, p. [4].
