- Summary:
- Shakespeare has always had a strong influence in the Caucasus, and nowhere more powerfully than Armenia. Poets, playwrights, actors and audiences have all lived and worked within his generous shade, and he has proven an enduring symbol of freedom in times of oppression. Many great actors and directors have emerged from Armenia to go on to great international success, and this is their first visit of their national theatre to the UK. Synopsis: After the death of Richard the Lionheart, King John faces war in France as King Philip demands he give up the throne, Meanwhile, the most legitimate heir appears to be Richard's illegitimate son, Philip Faulconbridge. As he tries desperately to keep hold of his power, King John is beset from all sides by threats, as even his own supporters start to doubt him.
