- By 2050, one-third of the French population will be retired, and the number of people over 85 will approach five million. Our society is aging, but it has not been structured to ensure that all elderly individuals can live in decent conditions. The idea of moving into a nursing home terrifies most of them--not to mention the deterrent effect of exorbitant fees charged by these facilities, and their poor reputation due to suspicions of mistreatment of residents.
