Summary:
For over six months, women have been at the forefront of an extraordinary revolutionary movement in Iran. Iran’s youth—and with them, the entire nation—are calling for freedom and the dawn of a new society. Initiated by the Barâyé collective, artists from across the globe (Venezuela, Armenia, Syria, Tunisia…) came together at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on April 17, 2023, to stand in solidarity and resonate with this collective uprising for one unforgettable evening. This concert in support of Iran’s rebirth wove together a series of artistic performances—interspersed with interviews and footage of the movement—each bearing witness to the powerful global solidarity of feminist and revolutionary struggles, united through artistic expression. From the dances of Sahar Dehghan, to the poetic and political narratives of Emel Mathlouthi and Barbara Pravi, the maloya chants of Kaloune, and the deeply moving musical manifesto “Tell My Mother She Has No Daughter Anymore” performed by Golnar Shahyar and Keyvan Chemirani… the program intertwined diverse artistic disciplines, expressing the project’s deeply intersectional spirit with delicate intensity. Quite simply: sublime. Laure Marlot
