Summary:
Renowned principal dancers Natalia Osipova and Vadim Muntagirov perform alongside The Royal Ballet, opening their 2019-20 season with an eclectic program of three unique ballets set to music by Shostakovich, Elgar, and Glazunov. At London’s stunning Royal Opera House, the show begins with Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto, a plotless, one-act ballet set to Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major. Minimalist decor and simple costumes mean all eyes are on the beautiful and captivating movements of The Royal Ballet’s virtuosic dancers. Edward Elgar’s beloved Enigma Variations are then brought to life in Frederick Ashton’s rarely performed ballet that recounts a fictional story about the composer and his friends against the charming backdrop of Victorian England. The program rounds out with the spectacular third act from Raymonda, a cherished ballet originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to music by the great Alexander Glazunov. Internationally renowned ballerinas Natalia Osipova and Vadim Muntagirov join the English ballet company in Rudolf Nureyev’s exquisite production from 1966.
