- Summary:
- This volume is a new, revised version of the long out-of-date volume published in the former Institute of Eskimology's internal publication series (Copenhagen University). The new version is with English texts (and does not include the Danish translations of the original version). Besides the thematic dictionary, a succinct description of the grammar plus a sample text (with translation) is added. The format of the thematic section is parallel to that for East Greenlandic in Robbe & Dorais (1986), which also contains West Greenlandic equivalents. In this way the lexicons of the three major dialects of Greenland can be directly compared. The Inuktun dialect is both conservative and innovative, having been isolated for long periods in the past. It is now endangered and facing encroachment from the majority West Greenlandic dialect (the basis of the written language of Greenland).
