Summary:
The forces driving demand for critical minerals were inescapable in 2024 as the world witnessed another year of record-high temperatures and the continued adoption of new technologies, while rising geopolitical tensions renewed the drive to secure mineral supply chains. On the surface, there is broad awareness that this transformation is boosting demand for minerals. However, there remains a need to strengthen understanding among stakeholders-including policy-makers in resource-rich countries-to more effectively manage related risks and benefits. In 2024, a primary concern for the IGF Secretariat was to identify and inform key policy concerns around critical minerals.
