Summary:
"This book is on accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP), an integrative model of psychotherapy that focuses on the positive experience of corrective emotional and relational interactions within sessions and session to session, not only to alleviate suffering (like many psychotherapy models) but also to enhance functioning and encourage "flourishing". Its methods center on relational dynamics to undo aloneness, and draw on advances in attachment and emotion theory, affective neuroscience, and positive psychology. The book adopts deliberate practice methods to support experiential-learn by doing-training opportunities. The described methods and prompts facilitate practicing a range of important AEDP skills. In addition, it supports fine-tuning the "how" of intervention delivery, including in a flexible manner across diverse clinical scenarios. The book focuses on a series of 14 exercises that have been tested and modified based on feedback from AEDP faculty, supervisors, and supervisees. The first 12 exercises each represent an essential AEDP skill. Exercises 13 and 14 are more comprehensive, consisting of an annotated AEDP transcript and improvised mock therapy sessions with six client profiles. Both these exercises are designed to facilitate the trainees' learning how to integrate the 12 essential skills into the flow of a real therapy session. Step-by-step instructions guide participants through the exercises, identify criteria for mastering the skills, and explains how to monitor and adjust difficulty. The book provides guidelines to help trainers and trainees get the most out of training."--Preface. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved).
