Summary:
"Okwui Enwezor is widely regarded as a leader among the "star curators" who emerged in the 1990s to set agendas for understanding the global expansiveness of contemporary art. In addition to the large-scale exhibits he curated, such as the 2nd Johannesberg Biennial, he worked as an art critic, art historian, theorist of the postcolonial and public educator. Selected Writings, Volume 2: Curating the Postcolonial Condition includes seventeen essays that appeared in exhibition catalogs, art journals, interviews with artists, art reviews, curatorial statements, historical studies (especially of African photography), and book chapters written between 2006 and 2020. These texts show Enwezor striving to fulfil the second of the two main ambitions that drove his career: to build on what he called a "New African Art Discourse" (profiled in volume 1) to enable a critical, diasporic imagining of postcoloniality to become pervasive within global art discourse. They are evidence that his writings matched his exhibitions in fulfilling this goal"-- Provided by publisher.
