- Summary:
- Sol Invictus is poetry in motion, poetry in gesture. The latest show from maverick choreographer Hervé Koubi, this work is an ode to what it means to be human, an ode to hope and a song of praise to dance. This is a staggering piece of choreography which draws inspiration from the Roman sun god, and the ancient midwinter festival which celebrated the passing of the darkest days, and the optimism of the arrival of Spring and Summer, With dancers drawn from around the world Koubi melds together urban dance, hip-hop, ballet and battle. A work that seamlessly appears to mix ancient ritual with visions of the future. The dancers of the Compagnie Hervé Koubi have a gymnastic ability that knows no bounds! Perhaps best expressed in the words of Koubi himself «Sol Invictus is Radiant, Generous and Universal. Sol Invictus is a declaration of love, my declaration of love to dance, to its past, to its present, to its future». Prepare to want to dance! Rachel Rowntree.
