- Zahia Ziouani's Orchestra Divertimento is an ensemble without boundaries. With ease and intelligence, symphonic repertoire of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is blended seamlessly with traditional and world music. In this concert "Saint-Saëns, the Voyager" they do not disappoint. Saint-Saëns first visited Algeria in 1873 and the theme for the third movement of his Suite Algerienne was inspired by this visit. The complete work was premièred in 1880 in Paris and was a huge success. For this performance Saint-Saëns' suite is interspersed with music by Francisco Salvador Daniel. Divertimento collaborates beautifully with Ensemble Amedyez. Rachid Brahim's stand-out performance on both violin and vocals is a highlight not to be missed. The virtuosity of Mahdi M'Kinini's kanun playing Yousef Zayed's oud performance adds an incredible richness to the concert.
