- Summary:
- André Manoukian is a multifaceted musician. In addition to composing for various artists, he also appears frequently on the small screen, his media work reminiscent of former Squeeze keyboardist and British TV host Jools Holland. Creator of the festival Cosmo Jazz hosted every summer at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif, the Armenian pianist still frequently performs live. This dynamic set attests to this, recorded in Paris at Le Duc des Lombards jazz club. Manoukian kicks off this concert with two of his own compositions, featuring a mix of Eastern repertoires specific to the Caucasus. A relentless musical collaborator, it's not long before he is joined on stage by a number of different singers. One of them is Nesrine, a Franco-Algerian violoncellist picked up by the jazz label ACT and the author of a superb version of Niagara's "Quand La Ville Dort." Venezuelan artist La Chica follows with two tracks including "Drink," a heady tune featuring some stunning soprano saxophone parts. Kimberose showcases her soulful touch with a reinterpretation of Frank Sinatra's "I'm a Fool To Want You." Finally, Élodie Frégé and Rosemary Standley round things off with captivating performances of Serge Gainsbourg's "Ce Mortel Ennui," from the Alain Goraguer period, and "St. Louis Blues," a seminal track immortalized by Bessie Smith in the early 20th century. Vincent Caffiaux.
