- Summary:
- This documentary on Kassim Sanogo, nicknamed King Kass by his friends, begins with a reggae tag that implies the shooting in Bamako. Ten years ago, Sanogo landed in the capital of his country and now tells his story. From the outset, the mix is rap, hip hop, roots underground. The story concerns gangs of friends who live in the Korofina district. In residing there, they have to confront everything head on, starting with the rhythms. Their instruments are traditional: Djembé, Sangan, but if necessary, they improvise with stones on a rock. It is the art of circumventing poverty, the consequence of mass migrational exodus from the civil war. Sanogo's group is called Mande Mifa. In verlan, Mifa means family. He uses dance and rap on a daily basis to create; to recount long journeys; inequalities; love; and to give substance to his dream. The ultimate objective is the support of a record company, to be able to make a living from art and not just to survive. Marion Paoli.
