- Summary:
- If we say "symphony" and "Antonin Dvorák", we immediately think of the "Symphony No. 9, Op. 95 in E minor". Called the New World Symphony in reference to the caption on a postcard, it is by far the most popular symphony by the Czech composer, and was composed during his stay in the United States in 1893. The orchestra of the Leipzig Gewandhaus, with Andris Nelsons conducting, has reserved this masterpiece, which has become an indispensable classic, for the second part of the concert. In the first part he leads us to discover other gems by this same composer, particularly the Overture to "Othello op.93", "An aria from Rusalka" (his great opera), and the air entitled "Songs My Mother Taught Me". The soprano Kristine Opolais wonderfully performs these famous works of Antonin Dvorák followed by an aria from Bedrich Smetana's opera Dalibor. Here is a concert that communicates the intoxication of Czech music. **Rachel Welsch**.
