Summary:
The festival "Les Coups de Cœur à Chantilly" offers a carte blanche to Renaud Capuçon with his double title of soloist and musical director of the Soloists Orchestra of the Menuhin Academy. This academy, founded in Switzerland by the famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999), has been welcoming the finest string instrumentalists since 1977 and bringing them together for concerts given all over the world. With this program, Renaud Capuçon has chosen to explore the "old" and the "modern". First Mozart, with his accomplice Gérard Caussé on the viola in the "Symphonie Concertante," a true double concerto which explores all the states of the human soul. A chamber music interlude follows with Mozart's "Sonata in E minor" with pianist Iddo Bar-Shaï. On the modern side, Dmitri Shostakovich is in the spotlight with an arrangement by Rudolf Barshai (unrelated to Iddo). A famous Russian conductor and close friend of Shostakovich, he was particularly familiar with this score because he was, as violist, a founding member of the Borodin Quartet, "the" quartet associated with Shostakovich's work.
