Summary:

A monument to Brazilian music, João Gilberto launched bossa nova in the late 50s with the unstoppable "Chega de Saudade". Popularized in the United States by Antonio Carlos Jobim and saxophonist Stan Getz thanks to the "Getz/Gilberto" manifesto, the Bahian guitarist-singer's career would go on to enjoy other artistic successes, such as "João Gilberto", the white album of 1973, and or "The Best Of Two Worlds", a Lp where he reunites with the pope of cool jazz: Stan Getz. Adapted from an article by critic Mark Fischer, "Where Are You, João Gilberto? follows in the footsteps of the late, mysterious master of the Auriverde scene. Led by Georges Gachot, with a nod to Conan Doyle and his hero Sherlock Holmes, the investigation begins in Rio de Janeiro, historic bastion of the new tropical wave. The Franco- Swiss documentary filmmaker naturally surveys a legendary neighborhood like Ipanema, joins the family cook for the occasion and contacts Miúcha, the musician's ex-wife and Bebel's mother. Divided between questions and musical pauses (a visit to a Carioca record store reveals the sophisticated miniatures by João Gilberto), Georges Gachot pursues his collection of testimonies in contact with João Donato and the equally commendable Marcos Valle. Before more local meetings and consider a possible and surprising encounter with the author of the divine "Hó-Bá-Lá-Lá"... Vincent Caffiaux.
