- Summary:
- Same Same But Different is the story of two cultures diametrically opposed yet bound together. Through acrobatics telling the history of two European tourists visiting Cambodia, the complexity, paradox and the meeting of these two cultures is told. Same Same But Different, a seemingly innocuous phrase, makes perfect sense. Whether it is heard walking through the commercial streets of Asia's capital cities, or in films that dissect the subject, the problem is always the same: two cultures, putting forward their differences, despite a painful shared history. This one hour show by the circus troupe Cirque Phare from Cambodia aims to expose the differences between the country's native population and the visitors that come each year to discover the land's wonders. Through scenes representing everyday activities such as dinner or a boat trip, the acrobats and dancers bring into the light the disparities between their respective societies. Moving to the rhythm of traditional Cambodian music and instruments, this show is a true sensory journey. The troupe invites us, with the lightness and delicacy of its acrobatics and dance, to understand better their difficulties, residue left over from wars that have ripped apart the country.
