Summary:
This is a concert that dazzles! Sit back and enjoy this celebratory programme, put together in 2018 to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. The concert opens with great fanfare, literally, as the orchestra launches into a spirited performance of the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Delving into the world of Russian opera, Lithuanian soprano, Asmik Grigorian takes to the stage, wowing the audience with airs from Tchaikovsky's operas: The Queen of Spades, Iolanta, and Eugene Onegin. Renowned for her performances of Tchaikovsky, this is a breathtaking performance. To bring this celebration to a close the OSR offer a driving, dynamic performance of Mussorgsky's Night on a Bare Mountain. One of the first ever tone poems to come out of Russia, this piece has become one of the most popular orchestral works in the classical repertoire. Rachel Rowntree.
