- Summary:
- This genre that brought such pleasure to couples was created from the union of the accordion from Italy and the cabrette (a type of bagpipe) from Auvergne--also known as the musette--until the dances closed during the Occupation, marking the end of the musette genre's great hours. This lovely film is a trip into the history of popular Paris, with its period reconstructions, its exceptional archive images, its film clips (Hôtel du Nord; Jean Gabin singing "On se promène au bord de l'eau"), and the memories of the people from that time. It is also a lesson on the making of an accordion that is never more than a harmonica mounted in a kind of box with valves where air makes the reeds work. With Daniel Colin, Didi Duprat and Francis Lemarque singing " À Paris," accompanied by Marcel Azzola and Didi Duprat, this film can stir up emotions. Philippe Lesage.
