- The ghost of Rodin looms large in this sublime production from the Julien Lestel Ballet. Using Rodin as his inspiration Lestel creates a work of contrasts. This is a company that flows effortlessly between moving as one and breaking into stunning solos and duos. The work has a sombre opening, where minimalist, mechanical beats lead the dancers, attired in dark, earthy tones. These sombre shades are later replaced with costumes that echo Rodin's marble. This is a performance that is as sensual as it is playful. With a score by Ivan Julliard, Kerry Muzzey, Olafur Arnalds, and A Winged Victory for the Sullen, we glide between musical worlds of electro, ambient, and acoustic strings and piano. Lestel uses the human body in movement as a way to access the soul. A sumptuous production. A feast for the eyes and ears. Rachel Rowntree.
