- Summary:
- Less well-known internationally than Gilberto Gil or Caetano Veloso, though equally recommendable, João Bosco began his career alongside Vinicius de Moraes; diplomat, poet and pioneer of the sublime genre bossa nova. Following an atypical career path (he trained as an engineer), the Brazilian singer and guitarist threw himself into the deep end of the music world, writing for Elis Regina among others, before embarking on an exciting and prolific solo career. Many of the Minas Gerais native's songs populate today's artistic landscape, among these classics being the lively "O Bêbado e a Equilibrista" and its many versions. In this live performance recorded on May 31, 2024 at the Miami Beach Bandshell in Florida, Bosco's striking voice reveals a broad spectrum, marked in particular by jazz. The quintet kicks the set off with a musically rich track. The guitar is heady, the scat is suave and the percussion solos are impeccable. The track "Prêt-à-Porter de Tafetá" is equally sophisticated, inviting the audience to dance. A superb track like this naturally highlights the ensemble's virtuosity. Meanwhile, a number like "Odilê, Odilá" reveals the Brazilian performer's melodic talent through its captivating verses and highly addictive chorus. Tudo bom. Vincent Caffiaux.
