Summary:
The word is indirect, music is direct. It speaks from one soul to another » Ivan Fischer, quoting Schopenhauer in this, the third documentary in the series Music, Power, War and Revolution. This captivating film by Maria Stodtmeier and Isa Willinger proposes a powerful investigation into what happens when music and power collide. Tackling questions such as; can music promote political views? Can or should the role of an orchestral conductor carry political influence? Can music help achieve peace and democracy? The answers are explored with incredible sensitivity and frankness by world renown conductors such as Ivan Fischer, Valery Gergiev and Daniel Barenboim. Personal testimony and flamboyant performances from Gabriela Montero make for compelling viewing. Poignant interviews with Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, former member of the Auschwitz women's orchestra leave a lasting impression, long after the film has ended. A deeply thought provoking finale to this trilogy of documentaries. Rachel Rowntree.
