Summary:
A model for contemporary events such as the concerts at Villa Domergue, this, the 58th edition of the Cannes Jazz Festival, is a truly magical experience. An eclectic show, this fourth part stands out with a performance from vibraphonist Michel Hausser, who is accompanied for the occasion by Dante Agostini, a drummer whose brushwork illuminates the Côte d'Azur coastline. A document of real significance, this film is above all a reminder of the extraordinary liveliness of jazz at the time, its universe sometimes interwoven with fierce stylistic battle, and interaction with cinema through the New Wave. This shift in culture is encapsulated by the audience here, who are assiduous and curious about everything. As is often the case with this type of musical event, the Cannes 58 jazz festival is available in stores. Notice to collectors: Claude Luter's segment has been pressed in 10 inch format with covers of "St Louis Blues" and "Down In Honky Tonk Town." The INA offers, via its Mémoire Vive and Jazz Sur La Croisette collection, a two-CD boxed set containing the highlights of the festival, with a booklet illustrated by Jean-Marie Perrier. **Vincent Caffiaux**.
