Summary:
Marc Ducret weaves a concert of dark beauty around a Suite written in five parts, with only three being delivered here. In moving configurations in sub-systems where the stage layout is far from neutral (Ducret at the centre, surrounded by three trombonists; a drummer on the court side, the other on the garden side), this performance is the ideal encounter of twelve Danish, American and French instrumentalists. Together, they escape the classical pathways of big bands even if there are some ensembles that swing low (Fidel Fourneyron sketches dance steps at one moment). This Suite with jazz pulsations and rock accents sometimes sounds very close to certain contemporary music in its sonic stretching and its breaking of rhythms and melodies. Intended for adventurous ears, without slipping into pretentious intellectualism, it has complexity but remains seductive. **Philippe Lesage**.
