Summary:
Schubert in Love is the title of this concert, and fall in love with Schubert you will! «Schubert speaks to the heart and soul in a way that is timeless and universal», Arnaud Thorette tells us. In this stunning re-working of Schubert lieder Thorette's ensemble, Ensemble Contraste, transports us to another world. In this sumptuous arrangement, filmed in the Theatre de Saint-Quentin en Yvelines, French-American folk singer Rosemary Standley is accompanied by viola, guitar, piano and double bass. Extracts from Winterreise, Schubert's Ave Maria and other lieder take on a new dimension when mixed with the influences of jazz, flamenco, folk and world music. The Schubert we know and love is still clearly discernable, but the imagination and fantasy of this group give Schubert a phenomenal makeover. Interspersed with eloquent interviews from Rosemary Standley, Arnaud Thorette and the group's musical director Johan Farjot this is a magical journey not to be missed. Rachel Rowntree.
