Summary:
"At the beginning of the twentieth century, art underwent a profound transformation: instead of depicting the visible, artists discovered a new visual language in which the interplay of colors, lines, and shapes became the primary means of expression. A pioneer of geometric abstraction, Wassily Kandinsky laid its theoretical foundations through his writings. Inspired by the advanced technologies and theories of their era, artists opened new perspectives on space and time. This exploration ranged from the constructivist depictions of floating forms, through the design-oriented principles of Bauhaus, to the psychedelic effects of Op Art. 'Kandinsky's Universe: Geometric Abstraction in the Twentieth Century' features works spanning six decades and showcasing how the diverse manifestations of this art form continued to develop new future-oriented approaches across Europe and North America."--Back of book jacket
