- Originally published in London in 1784. Underwood's Treatise appeared in ten London editions between 1784 and 1846, and was reprinted seven times in the United States between 1793 and 1842. A French translation was issued in the city of Quebec in 1803. This publishing history makes Underwood's text the most frequently published book on the diseases of children available to the American and Canadian public in the first half of the 19th century.
