- The images on trade cards for the three Faricum specialties illustrate one of the staples of pharmaceutical advertising, and one that has been adopted so successfully by television: the before-and-after picture. By using Faricum for the cure of diphtheria, sore throat, croup, and catarrh, an entire city has been made well. In this card, the artist's skill at depicting a multitude of people in the small space of a card is especially evident. William H. Helfand, from 'The Picture of Health: Images of Medicine and pharmacy from the William H. Helfand Collection' (1991), p. 109.
