Summary:
The largest and most important private collection in Brazil of Bahian iconography created between the 17th and 19th centuries. Frank e Flávia Abubakir have been collecting art for more than twenty years. Their collection includes pictorial representations of natural landscapes, work scenes, the streets of Salvador (seen from the inside or from the sea), maps, human figures, documents: an infinity of information that transports us to the Bahia of past centuries. The unique and important collection comprises oil paintings along with a series of watercolors, sketchbooks, etchings, picture books - many of which exist only a few copies in the world - and some of the earliest maps of Brazil. Illustrated with 269 color images and a careful analysis of this artistic, cartographic and documentary production of an art collection never before collected. The collection is under the safeguard of the Instituto Flávia Abubakir. Along with texts by Pedro Corrêa, the book features texts and studies by important authors: collaborators associated with the Instituto Flávia Abubakir along with historians, professors and architects.
